octave species
A one
octave section of a
gamut.
The white key
modes
such as C to c (Ecclesiastical Ionian, Greek Lydian) or D to d
(Eclesiastical Dorian, Greek Phrygian) are octave species of the
diatonic
genus in
12-tone equal temperament.
