chord


    Refers to the simultaneous sounding of two or more notes. Some theorists restrict it to refer only to the simultaneous sounding of three (triads) or more notes.

    Also used frequently to refer to these harmonic structures in the abstract, divorced from any particular musical event or context.

    Individual notes in a chord are referred to as its members or identities. The pitch-distances between members are described as intervals.
