Dominant

In Western European music theory, the dominant is the fifth degree above the tonic, forming an interval of 700¢ in 12-ET or 3/2 in Just Intonation.

[Also,] a triad or larger chord whose root is this degree.

In the construction of tritriadic scales from the triad T,M,D = 1/1 M/T, D/T the "Dominant" interval D/T is used to separate the roots of the primary chords.

[from John Chalmers, Divisions of the Tetrachord]
