genos

(Greek; plural: "gene")

A particular division of the tetrachord, usually classified as Diatonic, Chromatic or Enharmonic according to the size of the largest interval.

In this book [Divisions of the Tetrachord] a fourth class, Hyperenharmonic is added to describe those genera whose largest intervals are larger than a Ditone (81/64).
