New Installation

Ensure that your system meets the hardware and system-software requirements. Tonescape® is currently available for Windows Vista and Windows XP (Home and Professional). The following platforms are not officially supported: Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, Mac OS, or Linux ... however, with the proper video components, it may be possible to install and run Tonescape under any of those platforms, particularly on the older Windows platforms, or if using Windows XP in a virtual machine on a Mac or Linux host. Additional system requirements are listed in the Tonescape® Knowledge Base.
-
Ensure that your operating system and device drivers are up-to-date. Supported Windows operating systems provide a Windows Update feature, which can be used for upgrading your Windows operating system. Tonescape® will not properly install unless your system has been updated. Windows XP requires Service-Pack 2 or 3. Even if it does somehow install without the proper Windows updates, Tonescape® will generate various unexplainable errors if your Windows O/S is not up to date. Getting Tonescape to work in Windows Vista may be a bit more tricky: Tonescape was designed for Windows XP and has not been updated since the release of Windows Vista, so in Vista it may not install or run if all the necessary older Windows components are not installed. Note that Vista comes with DirectX 10, and Tonescape requires DirectX 9.0c (which Tonescape will install automatically if you don't already have it -- just be sure that you are connected to the internet when installing Tonescape).

Follow the Tonalsoft web-site navigation menus to the product download page, or simply click on the download link at the top of this page. Download the appropriate installation file and save it to disk. Please ensure that you save the file to a folder where you can easily find it.
-
Before running the Tonescape® installer, ensure that you are connected to the Internet. The installer may need to download up to three large files . If your system has both of the required versions of DirectX, Managed DirectX and Microsoft .Net runtime, the installer will not need to download any additional software. If it does need to perform additional downloads, please ensure that you have the fastest possible Internet connection. The additional downloads may range from as little as 8MB or may be as large as 50MB, depending on your current system configuration!
-
To run the installer, open Windows Explorer and find the folder that contains the dowloaded Tonescape® installation file. Click on the file to run it. Alternatively, you can open the Start Menu and select Run....
-
Once installation begins, you may receive a warning stating that the publisher of the software is unknown. You can ignore this warning and enter Run to continue.
-
Once the installation begins, follow the directions of the dialogs as they appear. If you are required to install DirectX, the installer will ask you to restart your computer after the installer is complete. Additionally, if the installer installed Microsoft .Net runtime, you should run Windows Update before starting Tonescape®.
-
VERY IMPORTANT! After the installation is complete, before running Tonescape® for the first time, be certain that you have Microsoft .Net 1.1 Service Pack 1 installed. Tonescape® will generate various errors if Service Pack 1 is not installed. You can install Service Pack 1 by using the Windows Update command that's built right into the Windows start menu. When running Windows Update, ensure that you have selected the .Net 1.1 Service Pack 1 to be installed.
Upgrading a Current Installation

Upgrading an existing Tonescape® installation can be as easy selecting a single menu command. When Tonescape® is open, select the Help-Check for Updates command on the menu on the main Tonescape® window.
-
A dialog is displayed and reminds you that the computer must be connected to the Internet in order to check for updates. Once your computer is connected, select the Check button to perform the analysis.
-
After a pause, the dialog will inform you whether there are updates available for your Tonescape® installation. If updates are available, select the Install button to proceed with the upgrade.
-
The dialog will download the appropriate software upgrade for your Tonescape® installation and then close Tonescape® so that it can proceed. Once Tonescape® has been replaced with a newer version, it will automatically re-open.
