The number of times per second in which a periodic sound's waveform repeats exactly, which gives the sensation of a particular pitch. Also known as Hertz (abbreviated Hz).

The most universal tuning standard reference frequency in the world today is a pitch known as "A=440". This note's waveform exactly repeats itself 440 times per second.
